Itsybitsy

Itsybitsy is a micro food brand born in Berlin during the COVID-19 pandemic. It reimagines traditional preservation techniques, fermentation and pickling, as modern, healthy, and playful snacks for urban dwellers.

Timeline: 1 week

CONTEXT

This project was carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic while I was working at Justa, a company I co-founded.

CHALLENGE

Create a visually compelling, instantly recognizable brand with zero budget, minimal production capacity and 1-week timeline.

The Problematic

In early 2020, COVID-19 hit Berlin’s culinary scene hard. Jobs dried up,  restaurants shut down. Income disappeared overnight. We needed to act fast.

The Opportunity

While stuck at home, people began cooking more, caring about their health, and experimenting with DIY fermentation.

We noticed a trend: Kombucha, kimchi, and sourdough were everywhere, But no one was offering fermented snacks in Berlin, ready-to-eat, small-batch, and local. We decided to fill that gap.

Art Direction & Branding

We positioned ItsyBitsy as a joyful, gut-friendly snack brand, combining:

  • Bold yet defined typography → Reflecting the savoir-faire and richness of flavor.
  • Simple etiquette system to immediatelly catch the eyes on shelves.
  • Playful color accents → Inspired by the vibrant tones of the products themselves.

Trustworthy

Tangy and unexpected

3D visuals

To elevate the brand digitally, we created:

  • 3D renders of jars to tease flavors and ingredients
  • Stop-motion textures
  • Social visuals that mimicked tiny food universes, bite-sized, weird, and wonderful.

These allowed ItsyBitsy to live not just on shelves, but as an immersive brand experience online.
